Push technology

3CX v16 update 5 was just released on April 23. Alongside the usual bug fixes, there is support for the new flavours of Push technology to work with HTTP/2. Importantly with HTTP/2 is that it’s only supported by Microsoft on Windows 10, Server 2016 and up, or by migrating to the latest Debian edition of the 3CX ISO. This will be required for the iOS and Android clients to use Push functionality correctly. Apple has plans to revoke their binary Push technology messaging service sometime in H2 2020. Version v16 update 5 is supported and tested by 3CX on the following operating systems.

Supported and tested by 3CX:

  • Linux Debian 9 (kernel 4.9)
  • Raspbian Stretch
  • Windows 10 (Pro, Enterprise)
  • Windows Server 2016 (Standard, Datacenter)
  • Windows Server 2019 (Standard, Datacenter)

Windows based PBXs that are on an older edition of Windows will need to upgrade the server to a newer version. Alternatively, take a backup of the existing 3CX system and restore it into the Debian edition of 3CX (via the ISO download available from your reseller portal on release). The 3CX Debian edition has added benefits:

  • Requires less computer resource on the host
  • Ability to schedule 3CX updates automatically
  • Uses the 3CX instance manager from your reseller portal. The instance manager grants remote monitoring capabilities where a reseller can link a customer’s PBX to their portal. They then see stats such as hard drive / CPU resource used, as well as initiate PBX upgrades from a single pane of glass.
